This post is in partnership with buybuy BABY but all opinions are my own.
I think its pretty dope that God thought I was worthy of being the mommy to two precious girls. What a beautiful blessing! People often ask questions like, “Is your newborn sleeping through the night? How do you do it all? How do you get anything done with a newborn and toddler? How are you adjusting to your newest role as a mommy of two?” I hesitate to answer because I assume these are questions they should already know the answers to, but then I come to my senses and realize, why would they know these answers? This is my journey and my story.
So, no. My newborn is NOT sleeping through the night. In fact, she wakes up every 2-3 hours to feed and since I'm exclusively breastfeeding, I'm up too. There are also those nights that she doesn't go right back to sleep after a feeding, so guess who’s up? The both of us.:) Even better, my oldest still wakes up around 4am crying to come in bed with us. Gotta love it!
How do I do it all? I don’t. I have an amazing support system, a husband who is super dad, a mother who is the ultimate nanna and my saving grace, and a mother-in law who always come through in the clutch. They tag team when they can to help with the baby throughout the night, keeping the house tidy in between the housekeeper’s weekly visits, and doing the laundry which seems endless.
How do I get anything done with a two-year-old and a newborn? This is my favorite one. I don't. haha Just kidding! The only way to get anything done is to have a plan and baby gadgets to keep the kiddos occupied. Here’s the kicker, nothing really goes as planned anyways, but the gadgets usually save the day.
How am I adjusting? Being a mom of two certainly isn’t the hardest adjustment I’ve ever had to make. In the same breath I must also add, it hasn’t been the easiest adjustment I’ve ever had to make either. Sure, I have a two-year-old that wants my undivided attention to play with every toy she owns all at the same time. And yes, my newborn would rather we hold her every second of the day. Transparently speaking, it gets real in the Fusiliers’ house. Haha. I had done so much research prior to the arrival of our second daughter only to realize that no one’s story is black and white, and the adjustment would take some trial and error. Fortunately, I have found clutch items at buybuy Baby that have really helped our day-to-day operations run a lot more smoothly that I will share and link below.
Must-Have Baby Products
Fisher Price Cradle n Swing – perfect for your infant to lull them into a tranquil calmness and maybe even to sleep if you’re lucky!
Mamaroo – this is hit or miss for most families, we keep this gadget at my parent’s house
Dockatot – perfect if you co-sleep and also for when you just want to safely place the baby down for a second to run after that busy toddler
Joovy Room Playard Nursery Center– convenient for traveling but serves for another place for baby to sleep/hang out when we are in the living room
Umm We Made Wrap – baby-wearing is and will always the game changer. If you don’t have a baby wrap carrier and you have two kiddos, you’re certainly missing out. It’s the only way I am able to put on eye liner or prepare breakfast in the mornings
Bassinest – this docks up right next to our bed and is great for co-sleeping! Its also great for when we are in the bedroom and need a safe place for her to relax
Toy kitchen – this one is for my toddler. Its a must, it’s literally one of her favorite things to play with. When I’m cooking, she goes to her kitchen and cooks dinner too
Ipad – This is controversial, but I’m all about productive screen time. I am so glad I found the best educational app called Reading Eggs. Now, I know that my baby girl is learning and having fun at the same time! Not to mention, I have a little time to get other things done around the house while she’s occupied.
These items have been a necessity for me! I am thankful that I was able to have them delivered right to my doorstep from buybuy Baby! I am not sure how I would get anything done without them. Most of the items on this list cater to the newborn which makes the most sense since newborns can’t walk or get around on their own. With a toddler and a newborn, sleepless nights, hungry cries, and attention seeking among many other things are inevitable. Even through all of that, I wouldn’t change anything. I’ve realized it’s the raw and the ugly, the sleep deprivation, and the never-ending housecleaning that makes this experience so beautiful. My children are my world, they are both so amazing and the love of our lives! They are our best accomplishments. We are certainly blessed!
